About my Visuals

I used to really not like art.  It was just a class where I couldn't get things to work out the way I wanted them too.  I think that's why I took to photography and computer art so well--there was no difficulty in creating a realistic representation.  Since then I've branched out a bit, but photos and photo editing still are the two places that are most meaningful for me.

Self-Photography and Modeling
I've done a lot of exploration of photography of myself, both self-photography and getting friends to photograph me. This has been a part of how I have explored the different ways it's possible to express my gender, and, especially, to draw out different distinctly gendered images from my day-to-day presentation(s). I explore part of my relationship to photography in the essay that accompanies the below photo set: Stubble, the Essay

Stubble, the Photos
I've had a lot of body dysphoria regarding my facial hair. This was my way of confronting and exploring the fear and tension I hold in that part of my body. To hear about the meaning behind this series, check out the accompanying essay, Stubble, the Essay

The Series
A friend of mine and I decided to put together a photo project involving my being the subject of several monthly photo shoots. The idea didn't work out and I have since had a few sporadic photo shoots at random intervals. In some ways this could document my transition, but I hate the concept of "before and after" shots, so they have been put in a randomized non-chronological order (except, of course, observant viewers may be able to remember the order in which they were originally posted, but, oh well).

Spring - A frolic in the green spring growth of my back yard.
Fall - Playing on the clothesline among the dead grass of fall.
Rain - The Oregon winter is full of it.  Here's my walk in the park through the rain.

Electronic Collage
I've done quite a bit of work exploring the use of Photoshop as a collage medium. Usually that means taking a bunch of pictures I have of a person or idea and combining them into one image to represent aspects about them or it that I want to represent.

Eyes, Stills
These are some of stills that I put together for my Eyes video. I figured it would be good to display some of them here in full resolution, as I had to significantly cut the quality on the video in order to put it on the web.

Miscellaneous
I've done a bunch of random things over the years. Here are some of them.
