About my Writings
I've always loved writing.  From a young age I realized that I had a talent with words, and especially as I began to explore issues around my identity(ies), writing became an important medium for me. It both allowed me to learn about others who have dealt with similar issues and allowed me to express ideas that I hadn't seen discussed elsewhere.  Keep in mind that I have gone through a growing process in my writing, and I have kept my older writings in tact.  Notice the date for each writing and understand that the older ones may not represent how I would explain my thoughts today.  I'd like to make writing into my career, and I have been published in a few places. If you're interested in publishing any of my work, want to ask me to do some work for you, or would like me to submit something to you, check out Publish Tobi.

No Designation Blog
No Designation is a blog focusing on the political issues of gender and sexual minority communities. This includes discussion of transgender rights and internal community dynamics, as well as discussion of lesbian, gay, bisexual movements, sex-positivity and sexual freedom movements, and the intersections these issues have with other identity politics concerns.

Academic
After going through college for several years academia seeps into my work in places I often don't expect or want it to. This section, however, is for my explicitly academic work. It has been a difficult task to try to keep my work read-able to a larger audience while at the same time following the demands of academia. Since I have just graduated from college, it will likely be quite a bit of time before I end up writing something under strict academic guidelines again.

Commentary
This is one of my most prolific writing styles.  In my commentary I write about a wide variety of issues and policies being debated.  My background in competitive policy debate really shows its influence here, where I pick apart flawed arguments and try to show perspectives that don't get much coverage.

Narrative
This is probably my preferred writing style, as it highlights the role of personal experience in developing knowledge.  I like the idea of being a storyteller.  A lot of the time people aren't persuaded by logic and cling to bigoted ideology out of emotional fear.  I hope that by sharing my experiences, my love, and my pain, my ideas and perspective will become clearer than if I had simply stated them.

Fiction
I've really struggled to get myself to work on fiction pieces.  Although the structure can be quite similar to narrative, I've rarely finished any fiction pieces.  More recently, however, I've been pushing myself to expand in this direction as it definitely plays into my love for taking on the role of a storyteller.

Letters
I regularly write letters to people and organizations when something comes up that grabs my attention.  Sometimes, when I write a letter to the editor it can be humorously tongue-in-cheek, but most of the time I'm specifically writing to one person in an attempt to share my honest experience and persuade them.  It should be noted that as a part of that persuasion I may concede something for the purposes of that discussion which does not reflect my overall perspective.
